Handmade Tengu Masks: Guardian Spirits of the Japanese Mountains

The Tengu (天狗) is a spirit from Japanese folklore, both an ambivalent demon and a guardian of mountain forests, often linked to the yamabushi monks and the mastery of martial arts. Two types coexist in tradition: the older Karasu Tengu with a crow's head, and the long-nosed humanoid Tengu that became popular during the Edo period. On the humanoid Tengu, I enjoy playing with colors: classic red still sells the most, but I also work in white and blue variants. Every piece is made in my Brittany workshop: PETG 3D print, hand-sanded, acrylic-painted, varnished. Red, White, Blue, Karasu Tengu, and Mempo half-masks. From €40. Worldwide shipping via Etsy and daiyokai.com.
