Handmade Oni Masks: Demons and Guardians of Japanese Folklore
The Oni (鬼) is the ogre-demon of Japanese folklore, both a menacing figure and a protective guardian (onigawara are the Oni-faced roof tiles you see on Japanese temples). My Onigawara mask was actually the first piece I designed entirely on my own, with no reference to any existing license or creator: I built it from what I saw on traditional Japanese rooftops. Quick note: people often mix up Oni and Hannya, but they're two distinct figures. Every mask is made in my Brittany workshop: PETG 3D print, hand-sanded, acrylic-painted, varnished. Aka-Oni (red), Ao-Oni (blue), Onigawara, Raijin (god of thunder), Fujin (god of wind), and Mempo half-masks. From €40. Worldwide shipping via Etsy and daiyokai.com.
