In the mountains of medieval Japan, the Tengu ruled the forests and peaks. They were not mere demons: they were masters. Divine warriors who personally selected their students, passing on martial arts impossible for mortals to learn. The red of their fury burned like autumn leaves on the slopes of Mount Kurama.
The Red Tengu: The Fury of the Accomplished Warrior
In Japanese mythology, the Tengu is not an ordinary yokai. It is a unique figure, somewhere between a god, a demon, and a spiritual master. Ancient texts recount that Minamoto no Yoshitsune, one of the greatest warriors in Japanese history, was trained in the martial arts by Sōjōbō, the king of the Tengu, deep within the forest of Mount Kurama.
The Red Tengu embodies the controlled fury of the accomplished warrior. Not the blind rage of the Oni. A directed, precise, deadly fury. That of a master who knows exactly where to strike.

What I like about this red version is the contrast between the Tengu's power and the burning heat of the red. I work with the nuances so that the red isn't uniform: more intense areas, darker shadows, to bring each contour to life.
