Description

The Nekomata Japanese Demon Cat Mask turns a feline face into a dark red, black and gold wall piece. Pointed ears, cat eyes, whisker lines, horns and fangs give the sculpt a supernatural expression while keeping the animal reference clear.

Choose it if you want a cat-yokai subject distinct from Hannya, Oni or Kitsune designs. Unlike Neko Hannya, this product is named and positioned around Nekomata imagery rather than a feline and Hannya fusion.

Visual style

The sculpt uses feline eyes, pointed ears, whisker lines and an open fanged mouth. Dark red and black paint builds the main surface, while gold on the horns, eyes and teeth keeps the details readable in indoor light.

Nekomata and Bakeneko are related cat-yokai figures in Japanese folklore, but they are not identical labels. This product uses Nekomata as its main inspiration and remains a contemporary Dai Yokai decorative mask, not a historical ritual object or a literal two-tailed animal depiction.

Where to place this piece

Place it on a wall, shelf display or tattoo studio corner where the cat silhouette can be read clearly.

For the broader product family, see the handmade Japanese masks. Compare it with the Neko Hannya Demon Cat Mask if you prefer a feline and Hannya hybrid. For background, read the Nekomata and Bakeneko guide.

Making process

Each piece is made to order in my Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. The base is 3D printed in PETG, then cleaned, sanded, primed, painted by hand with acrylic layers and finished with varnish.

The aim is to keep a visible handmade surface: shadows in the relief, small variations in the painted details and a finish that does not look like flat factory plastic.

Who it is for

It is for cat-yokai fans, Japanese-mask collectors, tattoo artists and buyers who want a supernatural animal face rather than a Hannya or Oni design.

The mask is intended primarily for indoor display and photography. Any occasional wear requires a suitable fixing setup and a fit check; it is not protective equipment or intended for rough, prolonged wear.

Frequently asked questions

Can this mask be worn?

This mask is made mainly for indoor wall display and photography. Any occasional wear requires a suitable fixing setup and a fit check; it is not protective equipment or intended for rough, prolonged wear.

Is it suitable for wall display?

Yes. The Nekomata Japanese Demon Cat Mask works well on a wall, shelf, display case, tattoo studio wall or convention booth. Keep it indoors and away from damp rooms.

How is it made?

It is made to order in the Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. The base is 3D printed in PETG, then sanded, primed, hand-painted with acrylic layers and varnished.

Is each piece identical?

No. The shape stays the same, but sanding marks, painted shadows, colour depth and varnish can vary slightly because the finish is done by hand.

What is a Nekomata mask?

A Nekomata is a supernatural cat figure from Japanese folklore. This product is a contemporary Dai Yokai mask inspired by that cat-yokai imagery, with a feline face, horns and fangs; it is not a traditional Noh mask or ritual object.

How can I display it?

You can hang it on a wall, place it on a suitable stand, use a shelf or build a small display area with books, prints or other Japanese-inspired objects.

What size and weight is the mask?

Current product data lists a weight of 0.2 kg. Exact dimensions are not currently shown on the page and should be confirmed before ordering if you have a limited display space.

How is this different from the Neko Hannya Mask?

This mask is positioned around Nekomata cat-yokai imagery. Neko Hannya is a separate Dai Yokai hybrid that combines feline features with a Hannya-inspired face. Choose according to which subject you want the display to communicate.
