He wasn't born a monster. He was a cat, ordinary, domesticated, forgotten. Time transformed him. Too many years observing humans, too much magic accumulated in his two tails. The Nekomata doesn't hunt by instinct. He acts by calculation.

The Nekomata: When the cat becomes a yokai

In Japanese folklore, the Nekomata is an aging cat whose tail splits in two, a sign of its transformation into a yokai. A master of metamorphosis, it can take human form, summon the dead, and manipulate the living. Neither entirely animal nor entirely demon.
