In Noh theater, the white stage is the most painful to watch. Not because it is violent, but because it is still human. The woman is not yet a demon. She suffers, she doubts, she begins to lose what made her who she was. This mask captures that precise moment and pierces it with golden cracks. Because even fractures can be beautiful.
White, Gold, Kezurata: three languages that speak to each other
In the tradition of Noh theatre, colour reveals everything about the inner state:
- White: nascent jealousy, still human, conscious pain
- Light red: active suffering, between two worlds
- Red Aka: total rage, humanity consumed
- Black: absolute possession, pure demonic entity
Kezurata inscribes this pain into the material: each hollow is a wound, each raised area a resistance. The gold cracks, obtained through a thermal technique, are Kintsugi applied to Hannya. What was fractured is sublimated by gold. Each network of cracks is unique, organic, unpredictable.
It is the only mask in the range that maintains a tension between beauty and pain.

The white on texture is unforgiving; every imperfection is visible. The golden crackles add another layer of complexity: created by heat, they must be evenly distributed across a surface that isn't smooth. This is the mask that demands the most from me in my workshop, and the one I'm most proud of when it turns out well.
