The Kuchisake-onna (口裂け女, "the slit-mouthed woman") does more than just frighten. She poses a question. And it's the hesitation in the answer that kills.

This half-mask captures that moment: a mouth split from ear to ear, a sealed gaze, dark horns against a white background. An urban yokai, rooted in Japanese street legends of the 1970s.

Description

The mask covers the upper face. It features prominent, raised teeth, prominent black horns, and a white background with deep black accents. The glossy varnish finish enhances the contrast.

Each piece exhibits slight variations. This is inherent to the process: PETG printing, hand sanding, layer-by-layer acrylic painting, and then varnishing. No two pieces are exactly alike.

PETG offers structural rigidity that cast resin cannot provide on raised areas (horns, teeth), without the fragility to impacts. If this mask is worn at a convention, the horns can withstand accidental contact.

The Kuchisake is not a generic yokai. It is a unique character in Japanese folklore: modern, urban, born from street rumors. Its hybrid imagery, somewhere between classical Noh theater and contemporary horror, makes it a rare piece in European collections of Japanese masks.
