Description
This red and gold Hannya mask is a Dai Yokai interpretation of the jealous demon face from Japanese folklore. The expression is sharp, tense and readable from a distance, with horns and fangs picked out in gold so the face keeps impact on a dark wall.
It is a good choice if you want a Hannya that feels darker and more ceremonial than a clean white theatre mask, but still works as a handmade decorative object rather than a ritual item.
Visual style
The red base gives the mask anger and warmth, while the gold details pull attention to the teeth, horns and brow. The textured surface is kept visible so it does not look like a smooth plastic costume mask.
The British Museum describes Hannya as a Noh theatre mask representing a woman transformed by jealous rage into a demon. This Dai Yokai piece is a contemporary decorative interpretation inspired by that imagery, not an antique Noh mask, ritual object or historical reproduction.
Where to place this piece
Place it above a desk, in a tattoo studio, beside flash sheets, on a cosplay display wall or near other Japanese masks. The colour contrast works best where the face has enough light to show the hand-painted shadows.
Compare the handmade Hannya mask collection, read the guide to Hannya mask meaning, or add the separate Japanese mask display stand.
Making process
Each piece is made to order in my Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. The base is 3D printed in PETG, then cleaned, sanded, primed, painted by hand with acrylic layers and finished with varnish.
The aim is to keep a visible handmade surface: shadows in the relief, small variations in the painted details and a finish that does not look like flat factory plastic.
Who it is for
It is for collectors, tattoo artists, fans of irezumi motifs and people who want one strong Hannya face rather than a discreet object.
The mask is sold primarily for indoor wall display and short staged photography. WooCommerce records an approximate weight of 200 g but does not confirm dimensions, internal attachment, fit or field of vision. Contact Dai Yokai before ordering if you need comfortable convention wear, repeated movement or prolonged use.

Shipping is tracked from France. As the piece is made to order, the usual making time is around 14 working days before dispatch.
Care and placement
Keep the piece indoors, away from long direct sun exposure and damp rooms. Dust it with a soft dry cloth. Do not soak it or use aggressive cleaning products on the painted finish.
