Description
Here, Gashadokuro takes the form of a skeleton mask with an articulated jaw. The eye sockets are open, the skull covers the whole face, and the jaw follows the wearer's movements.
A contemporary interpretation of Gashadokuro
There is no traditional Japanese Gashadokuro mask. This model does not try to reproduce the yokai as an entire body. It focuses on one detail, the rattle of bones and the clacking of teeth, expressed here through a moving jaw.
To learn about the yokai's story, read the article about Gashadokuro.
Two finishes
- White, a light bone finish with a patina on the teeth.
- Red Crackle, a dark base crossed with red cracks.
Each mask is sanded, painted, and finished by hand in my workshop in Brittany. Shades and finishing marks may therefore vary slightly from one piece to another.
