Description

The Kezurata Hannya Mask is not a calm Hannya. It is a damaged, carved, red-rage version built around fracture and pressure. The surface is part of the story, not a defect.

Choose it if you want a Hannya that feels harsher and more textured than a classic smooth mask. It works well in dark interiors, tattoo studios and displays where the surface can be seen up close.

Visual style

The etched texture, red finish and painted shadows give the mask its character. It should feel like anger carved into the material while still staying controlled enough for a clean wall display.

The Mask Museum describes Hannya as a Noh mask representing a woman transformed into a demon or ghost through jealousy or obsession. Kezurata is Dai Yokai’s contemporary textured interpretation of that imagery, not an antique, ritual object or traditional Noh reproduction.

Making process

Each piece is made to order in my Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. The base is 3D printed in PETG, then cleaned, sanded, primed, painted by hand with acrylic layers and finished with varnish.

The aim is to keep a visible handmade surface: shadows in the relief, small variations in the painted details and a finish that does not look like flat factory plastic.
