Description
Shachihoko, the Stone Guardian
This contemporary Dai Yokai piece draws on the shachihoko, a legendary tiger-headed, fish-bodied creature used as a roof ornament on Japanese castles. Associated with water, it was traditionally believed to protect buildings from fire.
This is a contemporary decorative interpretation, not an antique roof tile, ritual object or genuine stone sculpture.
