A haunted lantern sculpture, not a lamp

This handmade Chochin Obake is a decorative sculpture shaped like a haunted Japanese lantern. The face, eye and long tongue turn the familiar lantern silhouette into a small yokai figure for a shelf, desk, display cabinet or tattoo studio.

It does not produce light and has no electrical components. Never place a candle, flame, bulb, LED or other heat source inside or against the sculpture.

Chochin Obake and animated objects

Chochin Obake is a Japanese lantern yokai commonly shown with a face and long tongue. It is often discussed alongside tsukumogami and stories in which familiar household objects take on a strange life of their own.

Made and finished in Brittany

Each sculpture is made to order in the Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. The PETG base is printed, cleaned, sanded and primed before acrylic colors are applied by hand and protected with varnish.

The overall form remains consistent, but shadows, color depth and distressed surface details can vary slightly because each finish is painted individually.

Display and care

The safest option is an indoor shelf, desk or stable display cabinet. Only use the top ring for hanging after checking that the ring and chosen support can securely hold the sculpture. Confirm the fixing system and current product weight before hanging it.
