Description

The Hannya Mempo Samurai Half Mask places a Hannya-inspired mouth and fangs in a lower-face, armour-influenced sculpt. It leaves the eye area open and is sold as a contemporary handmade mask, not as a reproduction of historical samurai equipment.

Choose red, blue or black according to the display or photographic setup. The compact format creates a different silhouette from a full Hannya mask, but fit, fixing and comfort still need to be checked for any occasional wear.

Visual style

The mouth, jaw and fangs carry the expression. Painted shadows reinforce the relief so the half mask remains readable as a Hannya-inspired piece rather than being presented as a functional armour guard.

Historical Mempo and other Mengu were parts of Japanese armour, while Hannya belongs to Noh mask imagery. This product deliberately combines those visual references as a modern Dai Yokai design; it is not antique armour, a historical replica or protective equipment.

Where to place this piece

Use it on a stand, shelf, wall hook or cosplay setup. In a tattoo studio, it sits well near samurai, Oni and irezumi references.

For the broader format, see the Mempo half-masks. Compare it with the Neko Hannya Half Mask or the Oni Mempo Half Mask. For background, read the Mempo and Mengu guide.

Making process

Each piece is made to order in my Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. The base is 3D printed in PETG, then cleaned, sanded, primed, painted by hand with acrylic layers and finished with varnish.

The aim is to keep a visible handmade surface: shadows in the relief, small variations in the painted details and a finish that does not look like flat factory plastic.

Who it is for

It is for photographers, collectors, tattoo artists and buyers who want a compact Hannya-inspired lower-face mask.

Any occasional wear requires a suitable fixing setup and a fit check. The mask is not protective equipment and is not intended for rough or prolonged wear.

Before ordering

Choose red, blue or black before adding the mask to the cart. Each colour costs €50 and current product data lists a weight of 0.1 kg; exact dimensions are not shown. Gallery photos currently show the red finish. The optional €15 stand is included only when selected.

Shipping is tracked from France. As the piece is made to order, the usual making time is around 14 working days before dispatch.

Care and placement

Keep the piece indoors, away from long direct sun exposure and damp rooms. Dust it with a soft dry cloth. Do not soak it or use aggressive cleaning products on the painted finish.
