Description

The Oni Mempo Half Mask mixes the lower-face structure of a samurai Mempo with a more demonic Dai Yokai expression. It is smaller than a full mask but still gives teeth, jaw and shadow enough presence.

Choose it if you want something easier to style with a hood, costume, jacket or display stand than a full-face mask. It is also useful when you want the mouth and jaw to carry the character.

Visual style

The mask is built around the jawline, teeth and painted depth. Color options change the mood, from colder demon to darker armor-like piece, without losing the Mempo silhouette.

Mempo and Mengu belong to Japanese armor history, while Oni belong to folklore. This piece is inspired by both, but it is a modern handmade art mask, not an antique armor component.

Where to place this piece

Use it on a display stand, shelf, wall hook or costume setup. In a tattoo studio, it works well near samurai, oni, irezumi or armor references.

For the broader product family, see the Mempo half-masks. For background, read the Mempo and Mengu guide.

Making process

Each piece is made to order in my Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. The base is 3D printed in PETG, then cleaned, sanded, primed, painted by hand with acrylic layers and finished with varnish.

The aim is to keep a visible handmade surface: shadows in the relief, small variations in the painted details and a finish that does not look like flat factory plastic.

Who it is for

It is for cosplayers, tattoo artists and collectors who want a wearable-looking demon half-mask without buying a full helmet setup.

It can be worn for photos and short events with the right fixing, but it does not replace protective gear and comfort depends on your face shape and setup.

Before ordering

Use the photos, options and additional information on the page before ordering. If the piece is for a wall, booth, outfit or gift, measure the space first and choose the finish that fits the setting.

Shipping is tracked from France. As the piece is made to order, the usual making time is around 14 working days before dispatch.

Care and placement

Keep the piece indoors, away from long direct sun exposure and damp rooms. Dust it with a soft dry cloth. Do not soak it or use aggressive cleaning products on the painted finish.

Frequently asked questions

Can this mask be worn?

A cord is included with the mask. Occasional wear for a photo or costume is possible after trying it on. Fit, comfort and field of vision depend on your face shape and must be checked before longer wear. Adding thin foam is recommended for longer wear, at your own expense: no foam or elastic strap is included.

Is it suitable for wall display?

Yes. The Oni Mempo Half Mask works well on a wall, shelf, display case, tattoo studio wall or convention booth. Keep it indoors and away from damp rooms.

How is it made?

It is made to order in the Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. The base is 3D printed in PETG, then sanded, primed, hand-painted with acrylic layers and varnished.

Is each piece identical?

No. The shape stays the same, but sanding marks, painted shadows, color depth and varnish can vary slightly because the finish is done by hand.

Is it a good choice for a tattoo studio?

Yes, if the Oni Mempo Half Mask matches the mood of the studio. It gives a clear Japanese folklore reference without needing a large installation.

How can I display it?

You can hang it on a wall, place it on a suitable stand, use a shelf or build a small display area with books, prints or other Japanese-inspired objects.

Can I request a color variation?

If a color or finish option is shown on the product page, you can choose it before ordering. For a specific request, contact me first so I can confirm feasibility.

Which mask should I choose if I hesitate?

Choose the Oni Mempo Half Mask if its expression, color and format fit your display first. If you hesitate, compare it with the linked category before ordering.
