Description

The Oni Mempo Half Mask combines a lower-face, armour-influenced sculpt with the tusks and expression associated with Oni imagery. It leaves the eye area open and is sold as a contemporary handmade art mask, not as a reproduction of historical samurai equipment.

Choose blue, black or red, then select plain or gold teeth. The compact format works for photography, display and careful costume styling, but fit, fixing and comfort still need to be checked for any occasional wear.

Visual style

The jawline, tusks and painted relief carry the expression. Blue creates a colder finish, black gives a darker armour-influenced look, and red produces the warmest contrast. Plain and gold teeth change the final accent without changing the sculpt.

Historical Mempo and other Mengu were parts of Japanese armour, while Oni belong to folklore. This product deliberately combines those visual references as a modern Dai Yokai design; it is not antique armour, a historical replica or protective equipment.

Where to place this piece

Use it on a display stand, shelf, wall hook or costume setup. In a tattoo studio, it works well near samurai, oni, irezumi or armour references.

For more demon designs, see the Oni masks. Compare this lower-face format with the Hannya Mempo Samurai Half Mask or browse the Mempo half-masks. For background, read the Mempo and Mengu guide.

Making process

Each piece is made to order in my Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. The base is 3D printed in PETG, then cleaned, sanded, primed, painted by hand with acrylic layers and finished with varnish.

The aim is to keep a visible handmade surface: shadows in the relief, small variations in the painted details and a finish that does not look like flat factory plastic.

Who it is for

It is for photographers, collectors, tattoo artists and buyers who want a compact Oni-inspired lower-face mask for display or careful costume styling.

Any occasional wear requires a suitable fixing setup and a fit check. The mask is not protective equipment and is not intended for rough or prolonged wear.

Before ordering

Choose blue, black or red, then plain teeth at €40 or gold teeth at €50. Current product data lists a weight of 0.1 kg; exact dimensions are not shown. Gallery photos illustrate the colour finishes, and some show the optional €15 display stand.

Shipping is tracked from France. As the piece is made to order, the usual making time is around 14 working days before dispatch.

Care and placement

Keep the piece indoors, away from long direct sun exposure and damp rooms. Dust it with a soft dry cloth. Do not soak it or use aggressive cleaning products on the painted finish.
