On 17 and January 18, 2026, the Dai Yokai workshop moved into the Centre des Expositions du Mans for Geek Life.
It was a rare opportunity to move beyond the screen and see workshop pieces in person: volume, texture, colour depth and hand-painted finishes.
At stand A32, visitors could discover:
- Oni, Hannya and Kitsune masks: several pieces for comparing volume, expression, colour and finish, including Hannya Kezurata.
- Komainu and Inari figures: compact pieces for a shelf, stand or workshop corner.
- Workshop process: conversations about sanding, painting, varnish and finishing.
- Workshop pieces: a few prototypes or one-off pieces depending on the stock prepared for the event.
- Dates: Saturday 17 and Sunday January 18, 2026.

What I prepared for the stand
At an event such as Geek Life, the point is not simply to see another online photo. Visitors can check the volume, weight, fastenings, paint reflections and how a mask feels in the hand. I prioritised pieces that read clearly from a distance: Oni, Hannya, Kitsune, Tengu and a few Mempo half masks depending on what was ready.
Each mask came from the same workshop process: PETG printing, surface preparation, sanding, primer, paint and varnish. The aim is not a fragile object for a closed display case, but a piece with enough presence for a convention, a wall or a photo.
Why seeing the masks in person changes everything
Online, the front view dominates. In person, the depth of the horns, eye openings, teeth and paintwork becomes clearer. Reds react differently from blacks, gold changes with the light, and a crackled finish does not read the same way at thirty centimetres as it does in a product photo.
If you are considering cosplay, wall decor or a tattoo project, comparing several families is useful. Oni feels more forceful, Kitsune more graphic, Hannya carries more facial tension, and Mempo keeps a more compact profile.
