Description

The Irezumi Oni Mask is a Dai Yokai creation inspired by Japanese folklore and the visual energy of irezumi tattoo work. The goal is not to copy an existing tattoo motif, but to keep the same presence: a strong face, sharp contrasts, deep red or burgundy tones, black shadows, gold details and a glossy finish.

The finish is chosen directly on the product page: Fire red or Burgundy. Because each mask is painted by hand, small differences can appear from one piece to another, especially in the shadows, gold details and depth of the red.

Where the inspiration comes from

Tattoodo’s Japanese tattoo style guide highlights characteristic motifs, bold shading and visual readability. This contemporary Dai Yokai mask borrows that graphic contrast through its Fire Red or Burgundy base, black shadows and gold details. It is inspired by irezumi visual language, but it is not a tattoo design, traditional Japanese mask, ritual object or historical reproduction.

It is made for people who like Japanese folklore, tattoo culture, manga conventions and strong Japanese-inspired decor. Compare the handmade Oni mask collection, read the Oni tattoo and irezumi guide, or add a separate mask display stand.

  • Weight: around 300 g.
  • Material: PETG, then prepared and painted by hand.
  • Finish: sanding, primer, layered acrylic paint, black and gold details, glossy varnish.
  • A simple cord is included for wall display. A stand is available as an option if you prefer to display it on a surface.
  • Made to order in my workshop in Brittany, France.

Making process

Each piece is printed in PETG, a material more resistant than standard PLA for this type of object. After printing, I work the surface by hand: visible marks are removed, the mask is sanded, primed and painted in several layers.

The colour work is built gradually. Red or burgundy forms the base, black shadows strengthen the volumes, and gold details catch the light on the horns, teeth and selected areas of the face. The final glossy varnish gives the lacquered look and helps protect the paint.

Wearing or displaying it

The mask can be worn for photos, conventions or short staged scenes. It is not intended for long conversations because the inner tongue touches the mouth. Fit, internal attachment and field of vision are not standardized, so contact Dai Yokai before ordering for prolonged or movement-heavy wear.

For display, a simple cord is included. You can hang it on a wall, use your own fixing system, or add the optional stand to place it on a desk, shelf, convention booth or display case.

Before ordering

Choose Fire Red or Burgundy before adding the mask to the cart. Both finishes cost €140 and are currently available. A cord is included for wall display. The optional €15 stand is added only when selected. The confirmed size is approximately 23.6 × 15.9 × 30.1 cm.

Shipping

The mask is carefully packed, then shipped with tracking from France. Shipping is available to France, Europe and international destinations. Because each piece is made to order, the usual making time is around 14 working days before dispatch.

FAQ

What is the Irezumi Oni Mask?

The Irezumi Oni Mask is a contemporary Dai Yokai creation inspired by Japanese folklore and the bold contrast associated with Japanese tattoo imagery. It is available in Fire Red or Burgundy, with black shadows, gold details and glossy varnish, without claiming to be a traditional tattoo design or ritual mask.

Can the mask be worn?

The mask can be worn for photos, conventions or short staged scenes. The inner tongue touches the mouth, which makes speaking less practical. Fit, internal attachment and field of vision are not standardized, so contact Dai Yokai before ordering for prolonged wear or repeated movement.

How can I display the mask?

A simple cord is included for wall display. You can also use a suitable personal fixing system or add the optional €15 stand for a desk, shelf or display case. Keep the 300 g weight and the 30.1 cm height in mind when choosing the location.

What are the dimensions?

The confirmed WooCommerce dimensions are approximately 23.6 cm wide, 15.9 cm deep and 30.1 cm high. The completed mask weighs around 300 g. These measurements help check whether the piece will fit a planned wall, shelf, convention booth or display case.

What material is used?

The mask uses a PETG base prepared and sanded in the Dai Yokai workshop in Brittany, France. Acrylic colour is built in layers, with black shadows, gold details and a glossy protective varnish applied by hand to finish each individual piece.

Which finish should I choose, Fire red or Burgundy?

Choose Fire Red for a brighter, higher-contrast appearance or Burgundy for a darker, deeper red. Both €140 variations use the same PETG model, dimensions, black shadows, gold details and glossy varnish. Small painted differences remain because each finish is completed by hand.

How long does it take before shipping?

Each mask is made to order in Brittany. The usual workshop time shown on the product page is around 14 working days before dispatch. The completed piece is then packed with reinforced protection and shipped with tracking from France to the customer.

What is this mask best used for?

The Irezumi Oni Mask works best as a wall piece, tattoo studio object, convention display or Japanese-inspired collector item. It can also be worn for short staged photos, with the known limitation that the inner tongue touches the mouth and makes speaking less practical.
